ANTALYA
The Capital of Tourism
Antalya is a significant city on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast, serving as the capital of Antalya Province. With a metropolitan area population exceeding 2.6 million, Antalya is the largest city in Turkey’s Mediterranean Region.
History
Antalya traces its roots back to around 200 BC, when the Attalid dynasty of Pergamon settled it. Under Roman rule, the city flourished and witnessed the construction of significant monuments such as Hadrian’s Gate. Over the centuries, Antalya changed hands several times and experienced periods of peace and stability under Ottoman rule. Italy briefly occupied it after World War I but was retaken during the Turkish War of Independence.
