Course Description
This course provides a thorough grounding in the principles and methods of CLIL, emphasising the role it plays in promoting language learning and subject understanding. Participants will explore how to create engaging, language-rich environments and design lesson plans that effectively integrate content and language.
Through interactive workshops, discussions, case studies and practical activities, participants will develop the confidence to implement CLIL strategies in different educational contexts and overcome challenges in real-life situations. Participants will also have access to ongoing support through an online professional learning community.
Preparation
Before the course begins, participants’ readiness and needs in the field will be assessed through pre-tests and open questionnaires. Based on this assessment, the pre-course content and activities will be designed to meet the specific needs and interests of the participants.
Aim
The course aims to equip educators with the knowledge, skills and resources needed to implement effective (CLIL) strategies to enhance students’ language acquisition and subject understanding in a variety of educational contexts.
Objectives
- To explore and understand the principles and aims of CLIL, emphasising its role in multilingual education.
- To equip participants with the skills to design engaging lesson plans that integrate content knowledge with language learning.
- Enable educators to implement effective CLIL strategies that promote language acquisition and content understanding.
- To provide tools and techniques for addressing the challenges of CLIL implementation in diverse classroom settings.
- Support the adaptation of CLIL methodologies to meet the needs of students with different levels of language proficiency and content needs.
Methodology & Assessment
The course uses interactive and participatory methods to ensure deep learning:
• Workshops and group discussions: Collaborate with peers to explore and apply CLIL principles.
• Case studies and real-world examples: Learn from successful CLIL implementations.
• Practical exercises: Develop lesson plans, create assessment tools, and implement strategies.
• Reflection and feedback: Reflect on learning progress and refine teaching practices through peer and expert feedback.
Assessment Criteria:
• Active participation in discussions and activities
